ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
In this instrumental follow up to Somnia, piano, harp and synth melodies drift over beds of dreamy electronica and earthy grooves. Three new tracks (Unearthed, Spellbound, and Tracing Inspiration), which were part of the Somnia songwriting process but didn't fit into that vocally oriented album are also included.

From Journeyscapes Radio
Longing for Orpheus is the musical project of classically-trained musician and theatrical performer, Derek Smootz. His fourth studio album, "Echoes of Somnia", is comprised of instrumental remakes of the female vocal-enriched album, "Somnia", plus three new tracks ("Unearthed", "Spellbound" and "Tracing Imagination").

"Echoes of Somnia" is an exquisite collection of electronic chill music lead by delicate piano, flute and harp melodies which are gently guided by downtempo-to-upbeat rhythms. Like its predecessors, crystalline bells and gossamer textures are present throughout and there's a dreamy, fantasy-like quality to the compositions. The music exudes a certain purity and innocence that is lightly veiled by a sense of mystery and wonder.

I find myself most drawn to a couple of the vocal-less versions of the same tracks I favored on "Somnia", which includes "A Room Full of Stars" and "Broken Down". "Spellbound" and "Tracing Inspiration" are also notable highlights, although I fully enjoy the album in its entirety.

Overall, "Echoes of Somnia" is another superbly elegant and ethereal recording from this artist which Will likely appeal to fans of Amethystium, Blue Stone and Ryan Farish.

For Old And New Fans
I’m always impressed by music that effortlessly transports the listener into another world. Just by listening you suddenly find yourself in a positive and relaxing environment, far away from stress and problems. Echoes of Somnia by Longing for Orpheus is such an album. Its warm and welcoming sound is a true find for both new and old fans.
Echoes of Somnia is like a fusion of trance, ambient and New Age music. Fans of Amethystium will feel right at home. Compared to the “original” songs, the instrumental echo mixes are more dreamy and chilled – even though the atmosphere is mostly the same (a vocal and synth have different qualities).
In conclusion; Echoes of Somnia is a fantastic compilation. The Echo mixes are great for both old and new listeners – and the new material makes it into a complete release.
