ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Writers, artists, singers, guitar pickers, a claw hammer banjo player, lovers of old school rock & roll, folk, and jazz, The Scones have put together possibly their best effort yet with Light In The Forest.

This band of well traveled musicians perform what they call “Rockin’ Rollin’ Americana”: a high energy mixing of tasty music that touches on blues, soul, jazz, country, and classic rock and roll. Incendiary acoustic guitar, flashy banjo and 3 part harmony vocals set this group apart. San Antonio (TX) Express News states “The Scones have a top flight songwriter”. Vintage Guitar Magazine applauds their past albums as having “first class guitar work and glorious harmonies” and the Woodbridge, New Jersey Patch describes the band at their live show there as “charming and entertaining”.

With Light In The Forest The Scones present 11 new original tunes all written by the group’s guitarist/banjoist Rick Stockton. The rhythm tracks, guitars, and vocals were recorded to a 24 track analog recorder before being transferred into the digital domain for additional recording and mix-down. This accounts for the slightly richer sound you will hear in the mixes.

The Scones base out of the Colorado Rockies and include members Helen Highwater: bass/vocals, Harry Knipe: drums/vocals, and Rick Stockton: guitar/banjo/vocals/songwriting. With three singers, the band’s sound is alive with harmony and Stockton’s songwriting and guitar playing have received acclaim in competitions and published reviews.

Although The Scones spend most of their time as a band, they recently wrote the music for and produced an original theatrical musical comedy entitled Ladies & Gentlemen It’s the Strolling Scones (a play about a fictional British Invasion Band from the ‘60s that accidentally got frozen and lost for 40 years before being rediscovered, brought back to life, and put on the road). The show recently played to sold out houses in Colorado. Scenes from the play can be seen on the Scones website at www.sconesmusic.com.

This last year found the band touring regularly in Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, and beyond. In the last few years they have appeared on stage with such established names as Joe Cocker (opening for him at his last stadium show in Colorado), Lyle Lovett, John Cowan Band, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Robert Earl Keen, The Country Gazette, John Lee Hooker Jr., Otis Taylor, Subdudes, Halden Wofford & the Hi Beams, and many more.

Light In The Forest is a great album - one which you will listen to over and over again. Besides the outstanding performances of the main band members, a number of other formidable players were added to augment the sound and bring each song into the
realm of the band’s artistic vision.
