ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
From Director Marcela Molina:

From the onset of my rolse as director of the Tucson Girls Chorus, I had a vision to commission new works and make beautiful recordings. We had been performing the music of Frank La Rocca for several seasons, and every time the music came together, the sound was inspiring.

The vision of this album is intended to reflect the breadth of human experience. Frank La Rocca's setting of Magnificat paired with his setting of Nunc Dimittis (a commission from the Tucson Girls Chorus) evoked the concept of the album's three thematic sections: Heaven, Earth, and Soul.

Heaven, the first section, speaks of life with both the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis and death with the setting of Psalm 23.

Earth is portrayed by beautiful imagery both in the music and the poetry to which the music is set. The journey from Jerusalem Luminosa, to the Five Hebrew Love Songs, ending with Jack's Valentine, demonstrate the intensity of loving and living.

Soul captures and reflects human emotions like loneliness and elation, through Mata del Anima Sola and the American gospel, Music Down in My Soul.

This music has touched me indelibly, and I hope it evokes within you, the same breadth of reflections and emotion which it has for me.

With the girls in mind,
Marcela Molina
