Adorned in Ash

Founded in 2009, Adorned in Ash (AiA) is much more than just a female fronted metal band from Pretoria, South Africa. They are an exhilarating metal experience that knows no boundaries. Their unique brand of heavy metal can't be pigeonholed into one genre, but instead borrows intense qualities from most of the extreme metal styles.

Brutally heavy yet beautifully melodic, progressive but groove driven, their song flow from Black Metal to Death Metal to Thrash and into something fresh and unfamiliar with effortless effectiveness leaving the listener in awe. In fact, the only aspect of the band more intense than the music is the energetic and driven stage performances. From the very first chord all the way to the final sweat drenched note, it is an electrifying and captivating display of power and passion. Robyn Ferguson, who originally joined as a guitarist only before taking over vocal duties from Marius Visagie in 2011, pulls no punches with her massive vocals, riffs and solos. With band co-founder, Mark Ivey driving the drums at a frantic yet brilliantly structured pace and Leon Van Rensburg fattening up the guitar assault. In 2017 bassist Colin Deacon temporarily took over bass duties until the return of long time bassist Marinus Terblanche in 2018.

The South African metal community agrees that Adorned in Ash is a force to be reckoned with and this has landed the band with several nominations at the South African Metal Music Awards for four consecutive years (including Best Live Band, Best Music Video, Best Death Metal Band and Best Black Metal Band) of which they were awarded the Best Death Metal Band Award for 2015 and was awarded the Best Black Metal Band Award for 2017 in a ceremony held in February of 2018.

AiA’s reputation as an explosive live act and avid users of Jackson Guitars landed them on the Jackson Guitars Official Artists list from 2015 until 2018 when Jackson guitars and basses were used exclusively for live performances as well as studio recordings. In 2018 front woman Robyn Ferguson became endorsed by Ibanez South Africa and is currently the official brand ambassador for Ibanez guitars in South Africa. Soon after she obtained another endorsement in the form of Elixir Guitar Strings.

Adorned in Ash has not only rocked stages all over South Africa with their brand of Christianity themed heavy metal, they have also been invited to neighbouring countries and the reaction is the same, metal fans cannot get enough of this impressive band.

Though the band takes the message that they bring very seriously they have never shied away from performing alongside bands or at venues who do not agree with it. It is the message of salvation and love through Jesus Christ without any discrimination. This also makes them one of the most controversial bands in South Africa, a label they don’t mind because no matter what you think or believe, Adorned in Ash, their exceptional quality of heavy metal and their adrenaline infused stage performance cannot be ignored or dismissed. Adorned in Ash has shared the stage with some of Southern Africa's best and biggest metal acts as well as the international group Becoming the Archetype (USA) on their SA tour in 2010 and the bands Epica, Cannibal Corpse, Hatebreed, Decapitated, Kataklysm, Belphegor, Septicflesh, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Alestorm, Carnifex, Aborted, Skinned and Restock at Witchfest 2015 in South Africa. Adorned in Ash was also on the bill for Krank'd Up festival in 2016 which included international acts Periphery and Norma Jean.

Adorned in Ash started with the recording process for their sophomore album, titled Apocalyptic Violence, in December of 2017 and are taking the necessary time to ensure that the end product is of the highest quality. A release date in 2019 is yet to be confirmed.
