Alexandre Silvério (born in 1975, Brazil) is one of the few Bassoonists in the world that plays both Classical and Jazz seriously. He is the Principal Bassoonist of the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra (OSESP) and also a very serious Jazz Bassoonist. Alexandre started playing the bassoon at the age of 15 under professor Gustav Busch and Francisco Formiga. At 20, he started his jazz studies under saxophonists Robert Sion and Hudson Nogueira. He was awarded a scholarship in 1999 to study at "Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler" in Berlin with bassoon legend Klaus Thunemann. In 2002, he was accepted into the Berlin Philharmonic Academy (Karajan Akademie) program, where he had the opportunity to study with Markus Weidmann, Marion Reinhardt, Stefan Schweigert , and work with some of the best musicians and conductors of today. Besides playing at OSESP, Alexandre teaches at the prestigious "Escola Municipal de Música de São Paulo" and he is part of a Jazz quartet named after himself.
