All Standard Guitars

Werner Fischer and Michael Giger have been working together regularly since summer 2006 to their audience's & their own great pleasure and satisfaction. Their repertoire ranges from classical jazz songs of the Great American Songbook to popular movie themes and contemporary Americana. They interpret their music with the nonchalance of jazz - yet always with a modern and sensual attitude. All Standard Guitars combine the stupendous virtuosity of the younger with the well-seasoned swing of the older player. The melody & the song are always at the center of their musical interaction. Their first CD was released on Altrisuoni Records - The Swiss Jazz Label.

Werner Tian Fischer was educated at the Hot Club de Jazz in Lisbon, the Swiss Jazz School in Berne und at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. During the 1990s he fronted the widely acclaimed pop-folk group STARFISH. After several years of expanding his musical horizon on the North American East Coast he returned to Switzerland in 2003 with a bag full of original compositions, some of which he recorded for his album "Eastbound". Since 2004 he has frequently toured the People's Republic of China - together with renowned Swiss musicians like Jürg Wickihalder or Mya Audrey, or with famous Chinese players such as Zhang Ling, Cui Jian's former bassist. In 2011 he went on tour with his jazz unit 'Travelogue' in China & Europe, featuring Swedish singer Sophie Dunér.
He is a regular member of Zhang Ling's 'International CD Blues Band' that accompanies Chinese and international performers on their concerts in China. Recently they have peformed with Song Zuying, Tan Jing, Diane Schuur, Pattie Austin, Yolanda Adams, Jody Watley, Shawn Colvin, Rodney Crowell, Richard Marx, Leo Sayer, Michael Bolton & Lang Lang.

Michael Giger grew up in Lucerne, Switzerland. Heavily influenced by virtuoso shredding guitarists as well as blues players, he played in several rock groups during his youth. His studies at the Lucerne Jazz School opened his ears for jazz cats such as Pat Martino and Joe Pass. He studied with Kurt Rosenwinkel, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Christy Doran and Helmut Kagerer. Upon completion he started to play in several acoustic duos as well as funk and soul groups.
