Along the Drive

Along the Drive is a seven-piece independent rock band from Chicago, Illinois, known for their driving rhythms, wall-of-guitars sound and melodic songwriting hooks. The group came together in 2006 and has played at some of Chicago’s most notable venues, such as Metro, Double Door, and House of Blues. They performed for several years as Aya Sofia, then McLovin, but changed their name to Along the Drive (ATD) to memorialize their latest EP Time-Lapse, which was released March 31, 2015.

Every day the clock appears to move faster, memories grow longer and dreams fade into reality. What really matters at the end of the day are the experiences you collect and the people you touch “along the drive.” Time-Lapse is a collection of four songs that captures Along the Drive at a very specific point in time. It wasn’t until ATD’s primary songwriter, Dustin Weinberger, met Larry Millas (founding member of local rock legends Ides of March) that the band felt it was time to release something more than the demos Dustin produced in his home studio. In the summer of 2014, ATD began sessions at World Stage Studios, home to another local rock legend and founding member of Survivor, Jim Peterik.

“I was looking for a modern sound with a vintage vibe,” Dustin says. “My influences range from indie bands like The Japandroids, Delta Spirit and White Denim to classic rock icons like Led Zeppelin, The Allman Brothers Band and Bruce Springsteen. Larry has decades of experience and was able to bring the vision I had in my head to life. Jim’s Grammy Award for ‘Eye of the Tiger’—displayed prominently on the mixing console we used— also added some multi-platinum ambience to the project.”

The end product is a well-crafted debut album from the Chicago band. Clocking in at 20 minutes of original music, it leaves the listener satisfied but craving more. “We put our hearts into this album and hope there is an audience that enjoys listening to it,” says Dustin.

The album is now available digitally, and there is also a limited number of CDs ready for purchase on CDBaby.
