Alutepena Hughes-John

Hello and welcome to my page! If you came here viewing a photo of me and expecting another Whitney Houston / Beyonce / (other RnB artist) then I'm sorry you've come to the wrong page! If however you came here expecting something 'slightly different' then welcome aboard!!

I'll cut to the chase. My music is very eclectic. Varying from Patti Smith / Alanis Morrisette / Toyah / Abba a little bit of prog rock and some bits in-between! If this awakens your curiosity, then read on.....

My name's Alutepena Hughes-John ('Pena' for short) and here's the bit where I put in my usual 'Bio' bit. OK....deep breath.

I began songwriting from the age of 8 years old. Dabbled in and out of music during different episodes of my life. With all life's ups and downs, music has always been my 'safe solitude', my 'security blanket'. Brief run through my 'musical chapters':-

Back in 1991, I joined a my first collaboration with Alik Dziki of Wild AD. A punk / reggae style band. I became the lyrical partner, whilst Alik wrote the music. The songs were political . One song in particular 'The System' inspired by a receipt of the Poll Tax application form!

After my short stint with the band, came away from music for a while then in 2007, went to The Lodge recording studios in Northampton to record the album : 'Love, Relationships and Other Dilemmas'. This album came under the 'Alutepena Diaries' umbrella and was based on my past relationships. A re-release of this album will follow in the near future, so watch this space!

The following year : 'Life in Good Ole' Blighty' was released, again under the 'Alutepena Diaries' umbrella. This particular album was more light-hearted and featured songs about life in England from my own perspective.

After a gap of another few years, 2008 formed the band Anthroppic, though a short-lived project with the nucleus of the band wanting to go down a different music path and thus the band was disbanded.

Fast forward to today and as well as my own solo work, I also am involved in different music collaborations too.
