Andy May

Andy May makes remarkable music. It can be exuberant, thoughtful, funny or bittersweet – but it’s always a joyful experience. His originality and optimism, combined with his love and respect for America’s musical roots, shine through his work. Andy’s deep-rooted music brings together a variety of styles: old-time and alt-country music, new adult acoustic music, blues, bluegrass, gospel, and good ol’ rock-and-roll. He combines mastery on guitar and mandolin and his trademark creativity, humor, and optimism as a songsmith in presenting his original songs. He's been called a “troubadour of life,” an “Americana Music pioneer,” a “master of traditional American musical styles,” and an “upbeat roots rocker.”

Andy started performing seriously in his teens as part of the tail-end of the 60’s Folk Revival in New York’s Greenwich Village and has continued for over fifty years. And, he’s pretty much played them all…the concert stages, the coffee houses and honky-tonks, internationally known festivals, schools, colleges – and even Carnegie Hall. Andy’s credentials include a Grand Championship on guitar from Union Grove, NC, a song on a Juno, Gemini, and Apollo Award-nominated album and television show, and an IBMA Award garnered by Swift River Music, the record label that he started, owns and runs. Andy has played his music and led workshops for many years at the Walnut Valley Festival (Winfield, KS), MerleFest, and the Country Music Hall of Fame, among other venues.

Andy has seven CDs of mostly original songs on Swift River Music. They are all available on CD Baby.
