Andy Shernoff

After a distinguished 35-year career as a musician, songwriter and producer, Andy Shernoff will be releasing his second solo EP on February 11th 2014.

Following a stint in the 70’s as a teenage rock critic writing for magazines like the notorious Creem, Andy began performing at the legendary rock club CBGB’s. He shared that celebrated stage alongside contemporaries Joey Ramone, Debbie Harry and David Byrne as the leader, bassist and songwriter for the pioneering rock band The Dictators. The influential first Dictators record was released exactly one year before The Ramones, leading many to call Andy “The Christopher Columbus of Punk.” His songs have since been covered by several legendary artists including Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Dion DiMucci and The Ramones as well Mary Weis from the Shangri La’s. His music has also played a featured role in hit movies like Kindergarten Cop, Academy Award winner Boys Don’t Cry and the recently released CBGB.

In 1990 Andy wrote and produced the Manitoba's Wild Kingdom record which Rolling Stone Magazine called "the first great punk rock album of the '90s". It featured the Andy's classic tune "The Party Starts Now!" which received regular airplay on MTV and rose to No. 8 on its Video Countdown in the summer of 1990. Andy's side project The Master Plan has released two albums Colossus of Destiny in 2003 and Maximum Respect in 2009. His compositions "Find Something Beautiful" and "14th Street" from those records were chosen as "The Coolest Songs of The Week" on Little Steven's Undergound Garage radio show and continue to receive regular airplay. He sang “California Sun” for the official promotional video of the 2010 Major League Baseball All Star game and in 2012 he released his first solo EP "Don't Fade Away.

Andy’s new EP entitled “On The First Day, Man Created God” was inspired by his interest in the conflict between religious and secular values in a changing world. The satirical song Are You Ready To Rapture? leads things off in an uproarious fashion as Jesus finally returns to earth and mayhem ensues. His video for the song led to an invitation to perform at the Reason Rally on the National Mall in Washington DC in 2012 alongside Richard Dawkins, Eddie Izzard, Bill Maher and Bad Religion. He takes a more empathetic approach in the song Fisher of Men, a character study of an evangelical with doubts while the tune Skeptical chronicles a romantic couple who have differing opinions on the existence of God. The final song, Get On Your Knees For Jesus is Andy’s hilarious take on the absurd concept of original sin.

Music is not Andy’s only passion; during his numerous worldwide tours Andy developed a serious interest in wine. He used his overseas trips to expand his knowledge by visiting celebrated vineyards and meeting with famous winemakers. In 1999 he used those experiences to become a certified sommelier. He often compares the time and skills devoted to developing a wine palate to mastering a musical instrument.

Andy's timeless songwriting style has been honed over decades of music making. Using his veteran’s savvy he incorporates humor, and social commentary to construct a distinctive, personal style. If it takes 10,000 hours to master the skills for success then Andy’s time has come today.
