Anick Lessard

A native of the Eastern Townships of southern Quebec (Canada), Anick Lessard holds bachelor, master and doctoral degrees in performance from the Université de Montréal, where she studied under Francine Voyer, Denis Bluteau and Robert Langevin. A member of the Sherbrooke Symphony Orchestra, she currently holds the post of principal flute.

An associate professor and director of the École de musique of the Université de Sherbrooke, Anick Lessard has played as a soloist with the Orchestre de chambre de l’Estrie, the Orchestre de la Faculté de musique de l’Université de Montréal, the Sherbrooke Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Sherbrooke Symphony Orchestra. She has given several recitals as soloist and chamber music artist in Canada and Europe and participated in numerous radio programs both as musician and commentator.

With a keen interest in the music of our time, Anick Lessard has also premiered several works by contemporary composers such as Robert Lemay, Ka Nin Chan, Denis Gougeon, Jacques Desjardins, Walter Boudreau and Andrew MacDonald as well as those of many other young composers.

The holder of several prizes and bursaries for excellence including those of the Fonds pour la formation des chercheurs et l’aide à la recherche (FCAR) and the Journées de la musique française, Anick Lessard is regularly invited to give master classes in flute and be a part of the jury for several well-known competitions. Finally, she can be heard on the Chandos label with the chamber orchestra I Musici from Montreal.
