Anne Feeney

Anne Feeney's job is 'comforting the afflicted and afflicting the comfortable' as it has been since her first performance at an anti-war rally in 1969. In 1990 she took her show on the road and now works 150+ days a year, all over the US and Canada, Sweden, Ireland and Denmark. Anne says, "What a privilege to spend most of my waking hours with people who are making a difference in this world... people confronting the rich and powerful, or on strike, or in unions\ or community-organizing drives, or defending women's rights, the environment, human rights ... working to end poverty and racism ... teaching peace."

Her songbag is an eclectic mix of original compositions, traditional and Irish folk songs spiced up with a formidable collection of topical songs written by her many friends. Her guitar has accompanied her rich alto on the front lines for decades. Her anthem, "Have You Been to Jail for Justice?" is sung by activists everywhere, has been featured in several films, and was part of Peter, Paul and Mary's repertoire for several years prior to Mary's death. They also featured the song on two of their recordings.

In 2012 the Irish Echo newspaper honored Anne as one of the 50 most distinguished Irish labor activists in the United States. She has toured Ireland extensively, and now leads tours of Ireland for Inishfree Tours.
