Antonio de la Malena

Antonio de la Malena (or simply, Antonio Malena) is a flamenco singer - a singer of traditional flamenco, a powerful art form. His double album here covers the gamut of flamenco forms from alegrías to seguirillas, from bambera to soleá to trilla.

A native of Jerez de la Frontera, Spain (known as a key part of the "cradle of flamenco"), the album's 16 tracks were recorded just outside of the city, and provides a full two hours of music. In most of the tracks, de la Malena is the only singer, accompanied by guitar and in some cases, palmas (percussion in the form of hand-clapping). For a few tracks, other singers either back him up (as in the trilla), or join in with their own song (as in the closing fin-de-fiesta bulerías) or, in one case (the taranto) take the lead role as guest artist.

For a lover of flamenco who wants to hear it as it is performed at the source, this is the perfect album.
