Anya Turner & Robert Grusecki

The New York Times says of their music, “Shimmering, expressive, powerful.” The New Yorker writes, “Lovely, comic, wistful.” Broadway legend, Donna McKechnie (A CHORUS LINE), adds, “Their intensely personal songs touch you in the most fundamental and human way.” Bistro Award's Robert Windeler praises their work as "Astonishing . . .Gorgeous . . .A Triumph!"

ASCAP Award-winning singer-songwriters Anya Turner and Robert Grusecki, recipients of the 2017 Bistro Award for Outstanding Songwriting, were honored for "a successful career of writing and performing an impressive catalogue of freshly original material." The duo recently released their sixth studio album, DREAM ON, a collection of songs and stories never before recorded.

On Anya & Robert's fifth studio recording, LABOR OF LOVE (2014), the piano-vocal duo was joined on eight of the twelve tracks by the versatile guitarist, John Putnam (Broadway’s KINKY BOOTS). Covering an eclectic mix of styles including pop, folk and jazz, the titles include the comic "Fifty Is The New Twenty-Five", the biographical "Paul" and "Janet (and like that . . .)", the inspirational "I Was Here (a birthday song)", and the blues-inflected "Harper Lee".

Anya’s sound, “a lovely, clear, low voice with a whiskeyish burr” (N.Y. Times), grew out of her experience interpreting American standards and the songs of Broadway. Robert is “a musician whose fine ear allows him to leap deftly from style to style.” (N.Y. Times) The songwriting of Turner and Grusecki has been described as “intelligent, mature, and interesting and so fresh and creative that I couldn’t compare it to the work of any other songwriters.” (Backstage) Anya and Robert have performed in theaters, nightclubs and concert halls across the USA. Their music has been heard in such NYC venues as Avery Fisher Hall, Town Hall, Symphony Space and the 92nd Street Y. Their songs have been featured on various radio shows: WFUV New York (Woody’s Children), WFMT Chicago (The Midnight Special), WRCT Pittsburgh (Best of Broadway), and Show Biz Radio (UK). Many other artists have covered their work including Donna McKechnie, Karen Akers and Steve Ross.

Their previous CD recordings include ORDINARY PEOPLE (1996), YOU LOVED ME (1998), GREETINGS FROM YORKVILLE (2007 original cast album), and A PARTY (2011). Robert and Anya have published three songbooks: GREETINGS FROM YORKVILLE (all 23 songs from the Off-Broadway show), A PARTY, and LABOR OF LOVE.

Turner and Grusecki have twice been named finalists for the Richard Rodgers Award by the American Academy of Arts and Letters for their musicals, GREETINGS FROM YORKVILLE and AFTER ALL, a musical much ado (a contemporary take on Shakespeare’s romantic comedy). They have also been awarded grants and honors from Meet The Composer and ASCAP.

Their latest single is CAITLYN. It is available on CD Baby (digital download). For more information visit
