Astra Kelly

Originally from Chicago, but currently based in San Diego, Astra Kelly croons like the love child of folk and soul raised by beat poets of the 21st century.

Her early interest in music was fueled by family jams, school choirs and formal music studies. Astra is a rare talent with a universal, lyric-based, melodic sound that is an original blend of her Chicago roots in funk and blues merged with indie folk and country. Her passionate performance style is derived from her days of street performing in Chi-town, incessant touring, and an undeniable devotion to the music. Her lyrics read like poetry, speaking of emotional transformation and personal freedom. Whether armed with only an acoustic guitar or onstage with the band, her delivery is an intensely powerful expression of her art and sound. She has toured extensively over the years, both as a solo performer and as a member of various other projects.

She is a music industry darling wearing many hats and embodying the DIY attitude with unbridled enthusiasm. She DJ'd the local show (The 102.1 KPRI Homegrown Hour) on San Diego's Triple AAA station, made her TV debut as guest host for NBC 7/39’s Concerts on the Square during Streetside San Diego. She's managed recording studios, produced and written music for other artists and is a songwriting and vocal coach. She's a warrior in music, art, and performance, plays over 150 shows a year and celebrated her ninth independent release on her own label, "Rockaway Records," in Nov. 2017.

Astra is a 5x San Diego Music Award nominee, winner of the Wine Country Music award for singer/songwriter 2017, and her "All I Got" video is was showcased at the San Diego Film Festival.
