BEDROCK (The Band In The Sand)

Formed in 1994 as a quartet in the remote Namibian desert hamlet of Oranjemund, Bedrock (the Band In The Sand), continue to thrive to this day. Of the original members, two remain - Pete Shout on guitars and vocals and Eddie Heusdens on drums and percussion. Solange Heusdens (keyboards & backing vocals) and Gert Muller (bass & backing vocals) currently make up the rest of the band. Despite being hampered by their geographical isolation, Bedrock have always been early adopters of new technologies and have used these platforms to establish a presence in cyberspace, as well as to grow their audience beyond their desert haven. Back in Oranjemund they continue to play regular gigs, occasionally venturing to play in other centres. The band has released five albums to date, the last four comprising only original material written by the band. Their sound is an eclectic one, drawing on all the popular genres of music from rock, the blues and folk to country and instrumentals. Throughout the years their own brand of music has emerged, a sound they refer to as Desert Rock. Many of their compositions enjoy regular radio play on commercial and community radio stations, particularly in Namibia. The Desert Rock sound was initially steered by the songwriting skills of erstwhile lead guitarist, Kenny Ramage. After Kenny's departure from the band's ranks, the songwriting skils of Pete Shout came to the fore to consolidate the sound of Desert Rock. One of their compositions, "Rock 'n Roll Man", penned by Kenny Ramage, was rated by the authorative South African Rock Digest as one of the Top 30 local compositions for 2003. They have also participated in various music festivals, concerts and competitions, reciving various awards and accolades along the way. The band see Desert Rock as, essentially, being about fun and enjoyment as their lyrics reflect on the world they live in, and the experiences they encounter. Many of their songs are laced with an understated sense of wit and humour. Bedrock look fowarding to adding you to their circle of friends!
