Blue News is an American alternative rock band that formed in Terre Haute, Indiana in 2006. The band's self-titled debut album was released by the independent record label Statue Records Group Hollywood in 2006. Statue signed a deal after A&R heard the solo album by the band's primary songwriter, singer and multi-instrumentalist Brent Orndorff and the band was formed after the release agreement was established.

After their 2006 album the band has been self-produced and self-released under their own indie record label Blame Records. In 2007, Blue News had 2 of their songs featured on the soundtrack for the national television series Roadtrip Nation on PBS. The band nearly played the 2008 Bonnaroo Music Festival after fans voted the band up to the top 10 finalist bands in a competition on Ourstage.com. Over 1,000 bands from around the world were competing for votes.

The band's current lineup includes Brent Orndorff, drummer Dustin Richardson & guitarist Reggie Raisner. Reggie Raisner was a member of the band Blackmaker of Chicago, Illinois which toured with Nickelback, Urge Overkill and more. That band signed with Island Records but the deal fell through due to a lack of label support. As a member of Blackmaker, Raisner worked together with producers Chris Henry and Butch Vig, best known internationally as the drummer for the band Garbage and producer of multi-platinum selling albums Nevermind by Nirvana and Siamese Dream by Smashing Pumpkins.

The band's musical style has been defined as alternative rock and blues rock. Reviewers have compared the groups music to Eric Clapton, Gov't Mule, Kings of Leon and The Black Keys. Their sound is largely influenced by the blues but they turn to unlikely sources for inspiration, reaching into various musical genres including everything from 90's grunge, garage rock, R&B, classic rock to a stripped-down folk style. The unique style of songwriting has gone through many changes and each album release features an evolving sound.

Recently the band's sound has shifted away from the blues influence and is moving more toward a more melodic and meditative style of alternative rock comparable to bands such as Coldplay, Stereophonics, Air (band), Franz Ferdinand, Airborne Toxic Event, Radiohead, The Killers and U2.
