Saxophonist/Flutist/Percussionist Ralph Martin’s unique sound has been honed and crafted since his alumni days at Berklee College of Music studying Arranging and Composition. Encompassing Jazz, Funk, R&B, Soul, Blues, and Classical styles he has been playing in the pulse of the New England music scene.

His debut DownTempo release “Old Kings Highway” features Funk and Soul grooves with cool background and enticing melodies. While beginning to write for this album Ralph Martin was looking for a theme to tie the album together. He found it on an old road in his hometown called Old Kings Highway. From there inspiration took flight, with the idea from a king’s perspective, of a few of the issues that kings of old might face. The crown that weighs heavy of a ruler of a land and people, the halls of state issues and judgements, the burdens on the shoulders of kings, the court (‘kort’) with all of its politics and schemes and finally the sword of the kings for protection and justice for the land and its people.

Ralph Martin has performed, directed, and arranged music in top 40 bands, funk bands, jazz bands, big bands, saxophone quartets, stage shows, theater shows and solo performances all over New England, from Maine, to Boston, to Providence, to Hartford to New York City. Some of his arrangements and compositions have been played across United States, Europe and Australia.

“Old Kings Highway” is published by Ryuza Productions. Ryuza (“Reeu-za”) means ‘Draco’ or ‘Dragon Star’ in Japanese.
