Cartoon Physics is a Brisbane-based alternative rock/pop outfit. The band began life as a project of Peter Ayscough and Sam Magriplis during late 2007. Pete and Sam had formerly collaborated in mid 90's Brisbane band; Edie's Playpen as drummer and guitarist respectively. After the inevitable split, Sam joined Brisbane band; Mocking Room, while Pete established a home studio to focus on writing and recording.

In 2007 the pair teamed up again for a new recording project; Cartoon Physics. For the new project Pete took up lead vocals and joined Sam on guitar. Auditions for bass players and drummers met with no initial success, so a computer was programmed to provide the bass and drum parts.

In September 2008, Cartoon Physics released their debut cd; "The Blind Fingers EP", containing 4 studio-produced originals. The next 8 months were spent primarily working on an album-length follow-up to the EP. CP's debut album: "Per Ardua Ad Astra" was released on June 7, 2009. Both cd's are available from CD Baby.

Following the recording of Per Ardua Ad Astra, Pete and Sam teamed up with ex Edies Playpen bass player; Ted Patterson to start working on material for Cartoon Physics' next release. In late October 2009, Ted's Kenilworth rainforest retreat was converted into a recording studio and the bulk of six new songs were recorded there. In January 2010 the band's ranks swelled with the inclusion of Mark Whitmore on bass guitar. Mark and his daughter; Sarah contributed some final overdubs to the recent recordings and, following mixing and mastering, The Kenilworth Sessions was released in April.

In May, Simon Thomas joined as permanent drummer, and in July Mark left and was replaced with Jim Fleming on the bass guitar. The band are currently focusing on local live work and developing material for their next full-length release.
