Cary C Banks

Cary C Banks: musician, songwriter, and music educator

As a professional musician, songwriter, and entertainer for more than forty years, I have had the privilege to work with some of the world’s greatest artists. As a member of the Maines Brothers Band, I was inducted into the West Texas Walk of Fame in Lubbock, Texas; recorded albums with Mercury Records and Texas Soul Records; and performed on shows with well-known artists, such as Bo Diddley, The Dixie Chicks, Richie McDonald, Pat Green, Barbara Mandrel, Tom T. Hall, Lee Roy Parnell, Joe Ely, Terry Allen, and many others.

As a songwriter, I have had songs recorded by The Maines Brothers Band, Jerry Jordan, Cheyenne Ward, Jeremy Crady, Floyd Brown, and many others. My song “Lay It Down” won first place in a national song contest in Los Angeles, California. I have also received a Silver Telly Award, as a featured artist and co-host of the Public Broadcasting series “Storytellers & Music Makers.”

I am a graduate of Texas Tech University and currently serve as a Music Instructor and Chairman of the Creative Arts Department at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas, where I direct a well-known television production, “Thursday Nite Live.” I have been a featured musician on music video series “Jam Along With the Video Band” and “Praise and Worship Guitar” for Texas Music and Video. I am a writer and publisher member of ASCAP.

I am currently producing a guitar instrumental CD of Jimmy Webb songs titled “Guitar out in the Rain” and a CD of original songs titled “A Long Time Since It Rained.” See discography for more information.

I currently reside in Lubbock, Texas with my wife Carol. My family includes a daughter Katherine, who is a graduate student in Washington; a son Cody, who is the professional drummer for the Brandon Ryder Band; his wife Tiffany, who co-owns Rock Your Purpose; and my grandson Jaxon Clay.
