Charlie Bobus takes performance poetry to a new level, he has been described as being “the hardest working Dub Poet” and sheds a positive light on the Roots Reggae music scene. Bringing a new genre of poetry called Motivational Dub Poetry to the world. From Grantspen Kingston Jamaica, this Poet, left 8 years of office experience behind and now plays the role of Activist, Producer, Publisher, Events C-ordinator, Actor, workshop facilitator, and motivational speaker for over a decade and as been bringing a positive and welcome change to the dub poetry industry in Jamaica. Doing all the projects required to bring dub poetry to its rightful international status Charlie Bobus keeps events, publishes books, produces CDs and videos and runs workshops across Jamaica the Caribbean and Canada. Described as being a “cut between Motivational speaker and a Bob Marley” with “a unique style of his own”; “hailed as the leading Dub poet of this new generation”, Charlie Bobus‘s original Dub Poetry combines with any rhythm crossing genres to embrace Reggae, Hip Hop, R&B, African Roots, Rock and souls influences which enhance the motivational themes of his poetry. He is now in Canada on his third tour doing dub poetry.
With extensive experience on the stage show and live poetry gig circuit, and keeping some of the major poetry events that keep the poetry scene alive in Jamaica, Charlie Bobus in 2007 released his “Creative Energy” Collection – Book, single & Video, and recently launched his first Dub Poetry Album in 2011 at Lula Lounge in Toronto Canada which is a selection from his wide repertoire. Creative Energy solidified his presence and made an official Charlie Bobus imprint into the wider public arena and music industry. With its unique new Poetic style, Motivational dub poetry mixed with Roots Reggae and Culture, the Charlie Bobus sound is versatile, well crafted, positive, motivational, and healing! Charlie Bobus has been featured on BET performing on Spring Break 2009, Opened for Roots Underground in the Jungle, opening for I Octane My life tour in Canada Shared Stage with yellow Man and appeared @ Sunset on the beach in Negril, Sting, Capleton’s St. Mary Mi Come From and a number of large scale reggae concerts. Featured on BETJ word sound Power performing and doing an interview and Creative Energy and was a featured track on a compilation CD Word Sound Power Volume 1 which contained audio from the BETJ series. The rhythm Creative Energy produced by Inspirator international was also used as a sound track for When Walls Talk a featured program with sizzla on BETJ. Bobus sees dub poetry as a way to empower minds and uplift youths and works for the betterment of mankind. In this way, he believes that Motivational Dub poetry can empower people’s mind and become a valuable medium for change.

In recent years Charlie Bobus has impacted on regional festivals (Graduating from the Internationally acclaimed Calabash Poetry Festival Workshop scholarship), performing island wide in high profile Corporate Arenas, clubs, Hotels, appearing in music videos recently featuring as lead actor in Mr. Vegas – I am Blessed and plays and conducting countless Social Campaigns in Jamaica and abroad including running workshops and representing Jamaica in Canada as an ambassador for Dub Poetry at the Fall 2007 International Dub Poetry Festival in Hamilton, Canada.

It saw Bobus performing at the Hamilton Conservatory for the Arts, Hamilton Arts Gallery, African Canadian Caribbean Association and the Sky Dragon Centre. Bobus then went on to have a very successful tour with Poet Peculiar I as Tour Manager he performed all over Toronto Canada, performing in clubs like Tyhmless, Sensual Lounge, Classic Cocktail Bar & Grille and El Mocambo Club with M1 of Dead Prez.
Charlie Bobus brought a fresh new outlook on dub poetry through Canada with his motivational style and made a truly positive impact. Bobus did interviews on CHRY at York University, CIUT at University of Toronto and at CKLN at the Ryerson University and will be featured in December version of Reggae Exclusive Magazine. He performed for the Ontario Bicentenary, CMAST and a number of government sponsored community outreach program in libraries, Barbershops and community centres he also conducted workshops with Arts Start’s Villawayz project.
He also staged a Grand Send off Party & Dub Poetry Concert along with the Dub Poets Collective at Ellington’s Café, Toronto Canada. Charlie Bobus also linked up with Kornerstone Studios and voiced several tracks while in Canada which will all be released in 2008.Following that successful tour Charlie Bobus was booked to perform in Canada again in February 2008 and was featured on the African Canadian Literary Festivals, the Younge Street Mission Martin Luther/ Black History Concert, at the Trane Studio, Lula lounge, The Fish Shack, University Of Toronto, York University, Villawayz Community Resource Centre, additional appearances and workshops with Arts Starts and other organizations for black history month. He also organized and staged his second event at Ellington’s Café featuring him and other Canadian poets. Performing as guest in Barbados and in Trinidad on their first ever Poetry Slam called Roots Poetry Slam, Trevor’s Edge and performing dub poetry in Jouvay with 3Canal, Carnival Launch at Alice Cultural Yard and running workshops and giving performances in Mosques, schools and High risk communities.

2009 left a lasting impression for Charlie Bobus as he went through the Jamaican poetry scene organizing a weekly event poetry series in Portmore called Portmore Poetry & Reggae Fridays and bringing poetry continually to events and venues as the only poet on the stage. Also running a yearly Christams Eve treat along with the Grantspen Concerned Citizen Assoc. and the yearly Creative Energy Dub Poetry & Reggae Stageshow in Four roads square in the heart of the innercity community called Grantspen. He will be opening the first Poetry Lounge in Jamaica in 2012 and will be creating a state of the art facility dedicated to Dub poetry. He will also be staging an International Dub poetry Festival in Negril in 2012. Charlie Bobus has been in Canada since December 2010 performing on festivals in clubs and poetry events and also is doing a documentary on the dub poetry scene. He was recently featured on the cover of the Reggae Xclusive magazine and have been doing interviews on the radio stations across Canada also performing on the Freedom Festival in Queens Park to 40,000 people. He will be extending his stay in Canada to perform on the Rast Fest, Ajax Caribbean Day, Caribana Concert and run a number of workshops over the summer 2011.
Whether performing on a PA, Full band, sound, or acoustic set, Charlie Bobus will move and inspire you. His riveting stage performances combine the folklore and rhythms of the Caribbean with urban reggae. His lyrics explore the struggles of today's youth, the resistance of the poor to oppression and the change of though from negative to positive.
