Chris O

Chris O is a singer-songwriter who lives on the top of a Mountain, in Australia. With a crazy love for vintage blues and grassroots music, she'll lead you down the dusty roads of the Aussie Delta, channeling music from the 1920's and 30's - the heyday of deep and dirty blues, as well as her own songs of the times.

Chris knocks out these tunes on steel and mahogany resonator guitars, slide, uke, harp, and her trusty old Martin D15, singing along, sounding for the world like an ole blues lady on a 78 rpm vinyl.

She honors and pays tribute to those who went before, and laid the foundations of the Blues - Memphis Minnie, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Skip James, Furry Lewis, Blind Willie Johnson, Blind Blake, Son House, Big Mama Thornton, Bo Carter, and all the other great Blues women and men.

Her first album of acoustic blues, "Peckman's Plateau" remained in the Australian Blues and Roots Charts for 5 months, and her 2016 release, “Wailin’ & Raggin’ the Blues”, also made it into the Australian and U.K. Blues Charts, and was a Blues Foundation (USA) Finalist for Best Self-produced CD in 2017 Blues Challenge.

She has completed a number of successful blues tours of Europe in recent years, and, as NSW Solo Blues Performer of the Year for 2016, traveled to Memphis to represent Sydney Blues Society at the International Blues Challenge, USA.

"Chris is a gifted songwriter, understated singer and wicked multi-instrumentalist with catholic tastes and a penchant for inspired and creative collaborations."
Sing Out Magazine, USA.

"With a delivery somewhere between Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Memphis Minnie, Chris’s own songs stay firmly within the tradition that has so inspired her, with trains, work gangs, and cotton fields the backdrop to the usual tribulations of life, from hard lovin’ to just makin’ ends meet workin’ for the Man. You can hear the passion, the commitment, and that gives her own songs the necessary authenticity, a true master’s apprentice".
Michael Smith, Rhythms Magazine, January/February 2017

"Wailin’ And Raggin’ The Blues is worth the effort to acquire if you’re a fan of acoustic blues. The covers are all solidly original despite their age and recording history, and Chris O is a songwriter of the first order. A delight from beginning to end".
Marty Gunther, Blues Blast Magazine, USA. June 2017
