Christian Muenzner

Christian Muenzner started playing guitar at the age of 11, first inspired by bands such as Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Metallica and Megadeth in the early 90's. After being self taught for a while, he started taking private lessons, where his first guitar teach introduced him to players and bands like Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, Dream Theater/John Petrucci and Paul Gilbert. His life changed after attending a Paul Gilbert clinic in 1995, after which Christian started practicing 6-8 hours a day. He then discovered many more great players such as Tony MacAlpine, Marty Friedman, Jason Becker, Richie Kotzen, Vinnie Moore, George Lynch, Shawn Lane, Michael Romeo, Brett Garsed, T.J. Helmerich, Steve Lynch, Nuno Bettencourt, Dimebag Darrell, Allan Holdsworth, Al Di Meola, Greg Howe, Derek Taylor, Joey Tafolla, Michael Lee Firkins, Joe Satriani, Reb Beach, Stevie Ray Vaughan etc. and studied their music and styles in depths. In 1997 he attended a 4 day Vinnie Moore guitar clinic. In 2001 Christian attended the Munich Guitar Institute (MGI) where he graduated in 2002. After having played with several bands in previous years (amongst others Defeated Sanity), Christian joined the Death Metal Band Necrophagist in 2002, with whom he recorded the album "Epitaph" in 2004. He left Necrophagist in 2006. In early 2008 he joined the Prog Death outfit Obscura, with whom he recorded the albums Cosmogenesis (2009) and Omnivium (2011) and played several tours with all across the world, playing 190 shows between 2009 and 2011 all over Europe, North America, Canada and Japan. In 2011 he released his first all instrumental guitar album "Timewarp".
