Danny Echo

With life spinning out of control on tour in the UK as "The Ryecatchers", Danny and Mark decided it was time for a change...
Returning to Vancouver, Danny and Mark took their first steps toward world domination with the formation of Danny Echo in the fall of 2005. And with that, Danny Echo was ready to rock!

And why not rock on? With bucketloads of experience in the music and film industries under their belts, the band has used their skills to take their songwriting, recordings, and live show to the next level. UK-raised frontman Danny has worked on the special FX crew on the hit TV series Smallville for several years, so it should come as no surprise that smoke machines, projectors, smoking guitars, and fire extinguishers (?!!) have become a part of the visual assault of Danny Echo gigs. Lead guitarist Mark – raised in Williams Lake, BC - is an award winning mixer for television and film productions. Obviously, this has come in handy in the recording studio, where Mark acts as the band's chief engineer, producer, mixer, and 5-o'clock shadow-wearin' machine. Collectively, Danny, Mark, and bandmate Ian have had their tunes implanted in a number of TV shows and flicks in recent years, including MTV’s Real World Road Rules Challenge: The Duel 2, Cold Squad, Just Cause, Saint Monica, Show Me Yours, Zed CBC, and MuchMusic.

Since the formation of Danny Echo, the Vancouver music scene has embraced the incredible “melodic rock with balls” vibe of Danny Echo's rock and rollio presence. "Half the audience knows the words better than I do", Danny said at a recent Railway Club show in Vancouver. And even if they don't know the songs, audiences still get into the energy and sounds of Danny Echo. With influences drawing from the greats like The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Beatles, Radiohead, and U2, Danny Echo reverberates with all that is melodic, all that is catchy, and all that is rock and roll. As Mark observed, "it's all that it should be, damn it!!!"

The Danny Echo lineup solidified in the summer of 2008. Hailing from 100 Mile House, BC, longtime co-writer and self-proclaimed “jack of all trades, master of none” Ian joined the live version of the band on keyboards, percussion, and guitar (he’s also Mark’s cousin). The mysterious Hayato promised - and delivered - scintillating drumming and copious amounts of sake, while Spencer, specializing in tallness, harmony vocals, and bass, also became a bonafide, certified Echo.

In between rockin' out around Canada and playing around Vancouver, the band released a 5 song EP in January 2007. Danny Echo debuted the new songs at NXNE festival in Toronto, opening up for power pop legends Redd Kross at Lee’s Palace in June 2008. The Echos' first full length, self-titled album was released in 2009, earning critical acclaim and widespread attention in Vancouver. The new songs have already attracted the attention of radio programmers in Canada and the United States. In June 2009 Danny Echo was selected as one of 20 finalists for the Peak Performance Project, sponsored by The Peak 100.5 (Vancouver) and Music BC – stay tuned for how the process unfolds!

In January 2009 the Danny Echo songwriting team signed a contract with the Los Angeles-based Lakehouse Sound, a custom music label. Listen out for more of your favorite Danny Echo tunes reverberating around the world on TV shows, movies, video games, and ads!
