Danny Tobias

Danny Tobias lives for playing a cornet or trumpet. While his skills and repertoire embrace a variety of styles, he is best known for traditional jazz and swing, reproducing classic arrangements or uniquely improvising and composing.

Danny was playing professionally by the time he was 15 years old. His music studies during college led him to his mentors, drummer Tony DeNicola and clarinetist Kenny Davern, playing with them for over a decade. Kenny’s own experience with the masters (Jack Teagarden, Eddie Condon, PeeWee Russell and Gene Krupa, to name a few) inspired Danny to reach new heights with his own style.

Leading his own band, Danny performs at various private events. and has performed for the Pennsylvania Jazz Society, New Jersey Jazz Society and the Tri-State Jazz Society. He has also worked with a number of prolific artists such as the legendary Marty Grosz, Warren Vaché, Vince Giordano, Wycliffe Gordon, Harry Allen, Brooks Tegler, Howard Alden and Scott Robinson. Danny is a founder member of the Midiri Brothers Sextet, and plays often with them at various events and on the jazz festival circuit across the USA. He also works frequently with Jerry Rife’s Rhythm Kings, and various other local bands. Danny considers himself fortunate to perform at Birdland with David Ostwald's Louis Armstrong Eternity Band, and is thrilled to play with exceptional musicians at other jazz-loving venues in New York City, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Baltimore and surrounds.
