Dave Eichenberger

Guitarist and sonic iconoclast Dave Eichenberger has been exploring the sounds of the guitar in conventional and unconventional ways for over 40 years. Influenced initially by the Beatles, and later by British hard rock bands, he began experimenting with tape loops, completely unaware of those who had experimented in those same ways up to 35 years before. After studying music composition in college, he was inspired by ambient music pioneer Brian Eno, and thus began exploring looping, guitar synthesis, and effects. His love for guitar technique and exploration was inspired by groundbraking guitarists John McLaughlin, Steve Morse, and Robert Fripp. Dave’s electric guitar playing combines his love of technique with the slow-building intensity of ambient composition.

Uniting his passion for ambient composition with wild guitar playing, Dave has released numerous hours of recorded music. His project Collectives consisted of 50 CDs, each one an hour long. His work was funded by the National Endowment for the Arts and through the Cultural Affairs Division of the State of Florida. His follow-up recording Reward Your Toil, was released as a DVD-Audio disc containing over 14 hours of music along with multimedia content.

Dave is currently working on the second sampler from his Collectives project, a new holiday CD, and also on a project he is calling "UBU (You Be You): 31 Days of Balance" which consists of thirty-one 15-minute pieces, composed to either start or end your day with quiet reflection.

When not recording and inventing new sounds on the guitar, Dave performs and records with Grammy-nominated songwriter Julie Black, adding his sonic textures to her blues and jazz-influenced original songs. He has recorded three CDs with Julie, and performs at jazz and blues festivals with her band, inspiring hushed whispers about his unconventional guitar playing in such conventional settings.
