Dave Stephens

With over 300 compositions to his name Dave (and rising) started playing guitar in his early teens and graduated from playing pop/rock to jazz/rock and from there to bebop and beyond. Received critical acclaim from top American jazz producer Michael Cuscuna. Recorded various limited release albums over the years and also contributed to jazz magazine radio shows during the 1980's and 90's. Contributed and performed on accompanying CD to Adrian Ashton's 'The Bass Handbook' (Backbeat Books).Dave’s own influences and favourite musicians include the likes of Miles Davis, Pat Metheny, Lee Ritenour, Al Di Meola, Joe Zawinul (and Weather Report), Charlie Parker, Wes Montgomery, Django Reinhardt, Paco de Lucia, Frank Sinatra, Ennio Morricone, Steve Reich and the music of Brazil, Argentina (Tango), the Mediterranean and France.
He formed the latin/jazz fusion group CON MOTO with keyboard player Paul Smail and recorded various albums with Paul including the 2007 album of acoustic guitar/piano duets "Red Boats & Blue Skies" and the 2010 "Smail & Stephens Project". Con Moto released several singles ("Blue Note", "Valdes" and "Moonlit Bay").
Since then Dave has released various 'Smooth/Contemporary jazz' albums to great acclaim and collaborated with other like-minded musicians and released a couple of singles. He has also released a tribute to Joe Zawinul & Weather Report - "Reporting The Weather" and a collection of World Music originals ("World Cafe Project Vol 1").
2018 saw the release of his latest album "The Singing Bridge" plus two "Prog Rock" singles ("The Wishing Tree" and "English Garden"). In 2017 Dave released his Smooth Jazz album "Back On My Feet" exclusively here through CDBaby.
His music has received praise from the likes of Eumir Deodato & John Scofield, and is a regular favourite on BestSmoothJazz.com (BSJ.fm)
