David Michael George

David Michael George was born in Garland, Texas. George’s main musical influences growing up were Joe Cocker, Prince, and Al Green. Coming from two hard working parents (Denise and Larry Shipley), David used to be babysat by his grandmother, Margie Stanley. At his grandmother’s house, he discovered melodies and rhythm by practicing on her baby grand piano. Outside of the house, David dealt with the pains of childhood in a rough neighborhood and a struggling family life. Whether skateboarding or battling youths, music began to become an outlet for his aggression. After moving several places with his family and ending up in South Bend, Indiana, David replaced his grandmother’s house with a basement where he could isolate himself with his guitar. With the help from his father, Larry Shipley, David explored assorted styles of music. Returning home to Texas, David Michael George has continued his pursuit of music. Spending several years exploring the music scene in Denton, Texas in the early 2000s, he has been the front man in numerous musical projects including The Sundowners, Roaming Soldiers, and the Crowe Showe. David’s new solo project David Michael George AKA DMG looks to develop a new aesthetic. Starting in 2016, David scribbled notes for songs in his spare time. By 2017, the project made its volition. DMG combines Rock and Soul with under tones of Funk and Blues. After his debut album “1,000 Yard Stare,” David continues to write rejoicing in the perseverance through the darkness of everyday life by using his music as a guide.
