David Robinson

Since arriving in Adelaide, South Australia as a young English migrant, David has had music on his mind. Inspired by a love of The Beatles, he first picked up a guitar sometime towards the tail-end of the last century. David has entertained audiences as a member of popular bands and, in more recent years, as a solo performer. He's played at most of Adelaide's well-known music venues, including The Governor Hindmarsh (concert venue and front bar), SA Folk Centre, The Grace Emily and The Irish Club. In 2012 and 2013, David appeared as the official Onboard Performer on Great Southern Rail’s Ghan, Indian Pacific and Overland trains. He has supported internationally-renowned acts such as German-based Ronnie Taheny and Irish singer-songwriter Andy White. David has also appeared as an actor and musician in four Adelaide Fringe Festivals and performed at the Bicentennial celebrations in 1988.

In 2013 David was a joint winner of the SCALA Festival of Original Music live section with his song Is There Something Wrong With Me? He was also the winner of the 'Working Life' section of the 1997 SCALA Songwriters Event with his composition Monday Bloody Monday.

He likes to keep busy. He averages between 100 and 150 performances a year.

As well as performing in five Australian states and territories, David performed in England in 2010 and 2013.

He has appeared on more than 20 CDs and has enjoyed airplay on 891 ABC Adelaide, 5MMM/Three D Radio, Coast FM, 5UV/Radio Adelaide, Air FM, WOW FM and WCUW FM (Worcester MA, USA) amongst others.

David's performances feature songs penned by himself as well as a range of covers where suitable.
Combining wit and wordplay with a healthy mix of social and political engagement, David's songs provide plenty to think about. The lyrical depth is matched by strong melodies and memorable choruses; the songs will stay in the mind of the listener.
"David Robinson is an emotive songwriter, writing compact and personal lyrics, capturing the essence of his world. The music makes you want to dance, but has an edge that draws you to the words." Richard H Fox, WCUW FM, Worcester MA

David is influenced by many artists, from Muddy Waters to Nirvana to Oasis, but cites The Beatles as being the most significant. This is evident in many of his songs.
