Dejah Leger

Dejah Leger was born in Galice, Oregon, a small town of 40 people on the banks of the Rogue River. It was there that she cultivated a deep reverence for the natural world that guides her aesthetic both artistically and musically. Her music is organic and raw, supported by intricate guitar playing and heartfelt songwriting. Since starting her musical career at 16 as a singer-songwriter, she has joined forces with traditional Acadian and Quebecois band La Famille Leger. She enjoys the driving force and community of traditional music, and uses it to inform her interpretations and creation of roots music. In addition to guitar, Dejah plays piano, ukulele, and step-dances in the Cape Breton/Quebec style (you can find YouTube videos of her stepdancing at NW Folklife!). Merging her drive to create emotionally charged songs with her love of traditional roots music has spawned her first nationally distributed CD "Hand-Sewn Lullabies", a collection of haunting Americana lullabies sprinkled with original songs and interpretations.

Dejah has since settled down in Seattle with her husband and two young daughters. Her husband, Devon, is founder and manager of Hearth Music, a promotion agency presenting the best of today's roots/Americana/world music. She is currently the company's in-house graphic designer and specializes in organic, hand-crafted graphic production. To contact her, email
