Dizygote is Ned and Ethan DuRant – a father and son guitar and drums power duo based in SW Florida. Let’s go back a few decades to the 80’s. Ned was heavy into skateboarding and punk rock music. He taught himself how to play the electric bass because everyone else, it seems, played the guitar. He played lots of punk and metal and then discovered bluegrass music when he went off to college. The parallels between punk and bluegrass – the fast tempo, the energy, the truth in the music – hooked him. In the year 2000 he joined Chatham County Line, playing double bass and shoring up their signature vocal harmony sound. He appeared on their debut self-titled album. During those formative years, he was neck deep in the alt-country scene in North Carolina, doing countless shows and honing his musical skills. Along the journey he learned to play the guitar and the drums. All along he was writing songs, working as a side man and making noisy garage rock with his old friends.
Ethan joined this world in 2004. Not too long after Ethan learned to walk, he would sit at the drum kit and make a hell of a racket. His parents were cool though and encouraged it and he’s never stopped. Now, at the age of 14, Ethan is a technically proficient and powerful drummer with a deep love and understanding of metal music. He also plays guitar and bass and writes music. He is the reason Dizygote, the band exists.
Dizygote started as a solo project that Ned wrote, tracked and produced. The album was self-released and distributed digitally in 2016 under the Art + Science label and is available online everywhere. Now with new energy and a new approach to the songs, Ned’s guitar and Ethan’s drums bring doom, sludge, thrash and punk heaviness to your earholes. How heavy can two guys be? Like lead, baby.
