Don Shearer

Don Shearer is a songwriter, keyboardist and drummer who combines his talents to take listeners on an adventurous journey in contemporary instrumental music.

He fuses his love of coloring outside the lines—painting a unique musical landscape with each and every creation—with his years of experience and study in piano and drums. He draws upon the full palate of keyboard sounds for composition, and adds live drum and percussion tracks to give the music compelling propulsion.

Don’s 2012 release, Across the Dry Plains, combines spacious piano with insistent rhythms and colorful supporting textures to take listeners on an adventurous contemporary instrumental tour of New Mexico---known as the Land of Enchantment. Each song is a sound painting of the many captivating landscapes and landmarks found in the vast openness of the state. Listeners find Don’s instrumental music relaxing—a colorful sonic background for life’s essential activities such as dining, driving, cleaning the house and contemplating the cosmos.

Don has performed solo keyboards at concerts, spiritual centers, churches, bookstores, art events and other special events. He has played keyboards for the Albuquerque-based duo Illustrious Q; has toured regionally as a drummer for new age/classical composer Hiko; has been the drummer for the progressive/electronic group Élu; and has been a member of the Japanese drumming group New Mexico Taiko.

Don lives in Rio Rancho, New Mexico with his wife and son, enjoying the wide-lens wonders of the desert Southwest.
