My Dad brought home a guitar for me when I was 5 years old. He showed my some chords to get me started. Two years later he bought a banjo. I learned to read tablature from the Earl Scruggs and the 5-String Banjo book. I took some lessons from the shop where Dad bought the banjo for six months.

I learned a lot about timing and accent from my Dad. Without his guidance and generosity I would never have learned to play the banjo.

Over the years I played in a dozen bands or so out of Illinois. In 1993 I joined Chris Jones and the Night Drivers as their first banjo player. We had the opportunity to travel many parts of the United States and parts of Canada and Europe. I quit the music temporarily in 1999. Eventually I started free-lancing as a banjo player in Illinois. The bands I play in currently are Illinois Rail and Ashley Lewis and Legacy.

Mainline Runner was written a few years before I released it. I really wanted to hire some excellent musicians, and I know some of the very best musicians in the business today. Andy Hatfield, 2-Time National Flatpicking Guitar Champion, played guitar and acoustic bass on this tune. Ron Stewart, master at banjo and fiddle and perhaps the most demanded artist in the recording business in bluegrass today, played fiddle on this single. Mark Stoffel, mandolin extraordinaire, played mandolin.
