Andrew Pfaff is a career bassist and award winning music teacher. After 13 years of directing a high school music program, he is releasing his debut album under the performing name Draff. Except for drums, Andrew played all instruments and sang all voice parts on the album himself.
On The Knocks, Andrew explores his love of Beach Boys-style vocal harmony, the late Chris Squire’s bass approach, and melancholy themes. In addition to six originals, the album includes covers by Chris Bell, Brian Wilson, and renowned Renaissance composer John Dowland. Drums and percussion were expertly handled by Dave Anthony (Dennis DeYoung, Glen Burtnik, The Weeklings). The album was mastered by recording engineer Bruce Miller (Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Miles Davis).
In addition to his teaching career, Andrew has enjoyed a long and busy playing career. He has been employed by Hank Lane Music for sixteen years, playing private engagements in the metropolitan NYC area and beyond. His bass work is featured on recordings by Karen Lloyd, Robin Haffley, and Ari Benjamin, and his original instrumental compositions are signed to several music production libraries.
Andrew has been an advocate for social justice through his testimonies to the NJ State Board of Education and the Study Commission on the Use of Student Assessments. He lent his support to the Occupy movement in 2011 with his single 99% Christmas.
The Knocks is a testament to the undying creative drive of a dedicated educator. After years of toiling in obscurity in the classroom and on the bandstand, Draff is stepping forward.
