Florence Fahy

My name is Florence Fahy. I am a native of North Co. Clare, raised in the little village of New Quay which is nestled right beside Bellharbour. Growing up in New Quay, I was surrounded with concertina players and grew up loving that North Clare style of concertina playing, slower, steady, relaxed and full of rhythm. My dad Martin Fahy was my biggest influence as he was always playing the concertina at home when I was little. I would have listened to lots of old LP's growing up of the great musicians and ceili bands of that time. Some of them would include, Chris Droney, Paddy Murphy, Jack and Charlie Coen, Noel Hill, The Shaskeen, The Kilfenora Ceili Band and of course The Tulla Ceili Band. My concertina teacher Dympna O'Sullivan was a wonderful lady and teacher who taught me so much and really encouraged and developed my style of playing. Other teachers I would have taken lessons from include Tim Collins, Brid Meaney and Michael O Raghailligh.
Down through the years, I have been involved in Comhaltas competitions, with ceii bands and groups and travelled extensively throughout the US, Australia and the Middle East as well as parts of Europe teaching and performing at workshops and festivals.
Living in Boston with my husband Chris and our 3 year old daughter Leah, I teach the concertina both privately and on Skype these days and enjoy teaching the tradition that is the North Clare style of concertina playing.
I am very excited about releasing my first CD "Tunes From The Flaggy Shore". The Flaggy Shore in New Quay is where I grew up and spend most of my childhood so it brings back many wonderful memories and what better name to give your first album as it is such a beautiful, peaceful place and now that I am living away from home, I realize how beautiful it is and how lucky I am to have grown up there. I hope you enjoy the tunes on the CD as they are a reflection of New Quay, my journey as a musician and the traditional style of concertina playing native to our region of Co. Clare. Thank you to my wonderful parents for their love, support and encouragement, to all my family and extended family for always supporting me and pushing me to make this CD. My husband for really pushing me to record this album and my daughter for being the wonderful little human that she is growing up to be. Hopefully another concertina player in the family! Thanks all and enjoy the music!
