Gaby Castro

Gaby Castro is a San Francisco Bay Area-based singer-songwriter, instrumentalist, model, actress, and activist. At nineteen years of age she has released two studio albums of original music, performed in prestigious venues including the Hard Rock Cafe in San Francisco, Curb Cafe in Nashville, and Rainbow Cafe in Antigua, Guatemala, worked as a songwriting mentor at a non-profit, and been a regional semi-finalist in one of the biggest battle of the bands in the world, Hard Rock Rising. She began singing at eleven in her school’s choir and wrote her first song a year later in seventh grade. A guitar was added to the mix on her thirteenth birthday and that’s when her passion took off. Throughout middle and the beginning of high school Gaby sang in the ACDA Western Division Honor Choir at the regional level. In 2008 she sang as a mezzo-soprano in Anaheim, CA and in 2010 as a soprano in Tucson, AZ. She and her school’s choir traveled to Sydney, Australia in June 2009 to sing at the Sydney Opera House and that convinced Gaby to spread her music overseas. Now she has fanbases in Portugal, France, Chile, and Japan, just to name a few countries.

Gaby plays both the acoustic and electric guitar, piano/keyboards, ukulele, mandolin, percussion, and is hoping to become more proficient on all instruments as she grows as a musician. She has studied Seth Riggs Speech Level Singing under the guidance of SLS instructor Angela Arana since July 2009. Her dedication and passion for music, and support of her family, friends, and fans earned her the wild card semi-finalist spot in the San Francisco division of 2013’s Hard Rock Rising competition, making her the youngest semi-finalist for San Francisco at 18, and earned her performance slots in the Palo Alto World Music Day Festival in 2012-2013 and the San Mateo County Fair in 2013. She worked as a songwriting mentor and speaker for the now-disbanded non-profit Break Through the Static as a junior in high school and performed at several of their events, bringing awareness of depression and suicide and providing support for those who had lost a loved one to suicide through her music.

In December 2010, Gaby went into Skyline Production’s studio in South San Francisco and recorded eight songs for her debut album, “Free Spirit,” released at age 16. Each song was written and composed by her, and written between the ages of 13 and 15. Their themes range from love, to friendship, to world peace. Her second studio album, “Made to Dream,” was recorded at Soundtek Studios in Campbell, CA with Grammy-nominated artist and producer Robert Berry. The album was released in late 2012, less than a month before her 18th birthday. Her music and songwriting has been compared to that of Taylor Swift, Jewel, and Michelle Branch. They are among Gaby’s biggest music role models, along with Avril Lavigne, Carrie Underwood and Hunter Hayes. Gaby held the number 1 Singer-Songwriter position for San Jose on the Reverbnation charts from 2/9/13-3/28/13, a feat she never imagined she would accomplish. After finishing her senior year at Castilleja School, Gaby relocated to St. Paul, Minnesota to pursue a Bachelor of Music in Composition/Songwriting with a minor in Music Business and emphasis on voice and guitar at McNally Smith College of Music in September 2013. From there, she hopes to follow her dreams and become a successful singer-songwriter who can share her voice with others who are in need of hope and happiness.
