Giovanni “Gio” Lombardi is a Musician, Live Performer, Writer, Composer and Teacher. Raised in the coastal city of Bari, Italy, he picked up his first guitar at the age of 10 and has not stopped playing music ever since.
Giovanni’s training as a musician has taken him all over the world from Italy, Hollywood, to a Cruise Liner in Brazil. After studying at the Conservatory of Music in his native city of Bari, Italy, Giovanni moved to Los Angeles where he eventually graduated with honors from the Guitar Institute of Technology in 1999. It was then that he began playing throughout southern California with musicians of high caliber such as Miki Howard, Alex Alessandroni, Les King, Steve Stephens, and Ruben Valtierra. He has also played with Miatta Fhanbulleh, the artist known internationally as the Queen of African Pop.
In 1996 he was contracted to compose, arrange, and mount the musical soundtracks for Japanese productions of Manga (Lupin III) and the Italian TV hits “Cyoborg 009” and “Golgo 13” distributed by Warner Brothers, Japan.
Additionally, Giovanni’s work as a musician includes collaborations with Musea Records, and Raw Dog Records. He also took part in a Brazilian-Jazz duo with singer/songwriter Carlos Brizola touring along the Mediterranean coast.
Among his musical achievements, Giovanni is also an experienced educator. His credentials include instructing and tutoring at Mars Music in California, Los Angeles Valley College, Musicians Institute of Technology in Hollywood, and Los Alamitos Conservatory of Music. He also taught clinics at the Decibel Music Center in Pescara, Italy, which involved a live playing workshop, funk guitar master class, and improvisation. In order to reach students from any point on the globe, Giovanni utilizes online instructional videoconferences as well. He is fluent in Italian, and English, with a proficiency in Spanish and Portuguese.
In 2011 Giovanni released his first record entitled ‘’Scripta Manent.” The album includes 7 tracks composed, arranged, and performed by Giovanni and accompanied by the Giomusic band.
Giovanni’s musical range focuses on Jazz, with influence of Funk, Rhythm ‘n’ Blues, and Blues Rock. Highly influenced by the local musical traditions of the countries Giovanni has encountered thus far, all have played a part in creating the sound he brings to the music world today.
