Greg Barnaby

'Songs From the Road' started at the intersection of an older man and a younger man in the Fall of 2008. Ryan Beyer, a twenty-something UNLV music student hosted an open night every Friday. Greg Barnaby, a fifty-something decorative painter played guitar as a hobby and sang with his family at a Catholic Church every Sunday.
Not since Barnaby's own college days more than three decades earlier had Greg performed an original composition in a secular setting. Greg found himself among college-aged musicians displaying considerable talent but lacking the sort of life experiences that could embody their songwriting with depth and fullness.
In Greg's eyes the students were still children. This observation forged his approach toward them into that of a storyteller. 'It Comes To Me Now,' a retrospective look at mistakes and their consequences, found favor with the young audience.
An enthusiastic Ryan Beyer invited Greg back week after week fostering a friendship that would ultimately make collaborators out of the two musicians and bridge the decades between them. Over the next year, seven new songs were written to tell stories of life and death, youth and old age, a sailor, a friar, an artist, and a man on his journey toward God.
The songs were well-received, prompting Ryan to suggest the tracks be recorded and arranged. He envisioned an older man's song colored with a younger man's perspective. This album is the result of that endeavor.
