Greg Harper

Greg Harper...Singer-songwriter.

Greg Harper is a singer-songwriter from England. He was born in Shoreham-by-Sea, Sussex and still lives in the county of Sussex today. It is a county famous for its beauty. Nowhere more so, than where the South Downs meet the sea at the iconic chalk cliffs of Beachy Head .
The natural beauty of Sussex and its surrounding counties, greatly influences Greg's songwriting. The lyrics of his songs are testimony to this.
For example listen to 'The Downs', a track from Greg's latest album release 'Bricks & Dust'.

Greg was a finalist in the 2008 UK Songwriting Competition and has been a semi-finalist on many other occasions.
He is celebrated for his ability to combine gentle evocative melodies with genuinely thought-provoking lyrics.
As one observer advised; "Listen carefully, the words are precious."

Greg's songs have been used to promote many diverse issues. From the drawing attention to the loss of ancient woodland by The Woodland Trust, in 'All Gone', to raising awareness of the injustice of the legal system when dealing with the issues of road death in 'Mary Lou.'
His moving song 'Capel-le-Ferne' remembers the sacrifice made by 'The Few' in the summer of 1940 and in 'November Sky', the awful events surrounding the Luftwaffe's bombing of Coventry on the 14th November that same year.
Two songs 'From the Hill' and 'Highdown Hill' comment on the current issue of wind farm proliferation, whilst 'Family Man' deals with the issue of war veterans struggling to return to a civilian life following service.
'Cool Clear Water' relates to the reality of fracking on the environment, and 'Gossamer Wings' to the current plight of bees and other wildlife.
There are many tender songs too within Greg's song catalogue, some, 'Colours', 'Accustomed' and 'Roses' feature on Greg's 'Colours' album.

Greg writes with passion and honesty about our world, its history, and our loves and lives.
He has performed in many diverse venues ranging from folk clubs to folk festivals, castles to chapels and pubs to Parliament.

"Great songs." --- Steve Knightley

"I dropped by to have a listen to your songs. Really lovely stuff. 'Birdsong' is a beauty." --- Kieran Goss

"To be able to compress the essence of a story, the emotion, the cause and effect into four and a half minutes takes a rare talent and one that Greg Harper seems to have in his soul." --- Fatea Magazine

"I am a songwriter from Canada. I was trying hard to put lyrics together on a song I've still not finished. I went looking for award-winning lyrics to get some inspiration and found your lyrics to 'So Little Gain'. They made me choke. Awesome, amazing, beautiful lyrics." --- Jacquie Drew
