I saw the accordion on tv when I was 5 years old, and it was love at first sight. My dad soon bought me a starter instrument, and I've been playing ever since.

I grew up in a Slovenian-American community in western PA, steeped in the culture of polkas and waltzes from that tradition. At the same time, I was studying classical music, playing transcriptions of opera overtures, violin and piano concerti, and, later, Bach and Scarlatti.

In my teens, I was introduced to contemporary music for accordion, and took to it like a duck to water. I began writing my own music soon after.

My music influences come from a multitude of sources, from the beer hall styles I learned as a child, to the other social dance music I learned as a teen-ager, accordion styles from all over the world, as well as composers from the classical tradition including Satie, Bartok, Ligeti, Cage, Harrison.
