Ian Toomey

‘Very Soon Everyone’s Leaving’ is the debut solo single from Ian Toomey, guitarist and founder member of Bitches Sin. An intensely personal song, ‘Very Soon Everyone’s Leaving’ considers the nature of life and how the evils done to you are ultimately revisited on the person responsible for them; the song’s deeply personal lyrics made it the obvious choice for the legendary guitarist’s first solo release.

Like the B-side ‘Metal Sun’ ‘Very Soon…’ was originally recorded and released by Toomey’s side-project Flashpoint on their self-titled album in 2006 but has now been reworked into a version which properly fulfils the song’s powerful potential. Opening with Bitches Sin’s much-gifted vocalist David A Mills wringing every scrap of emotion out of the deeply personal lyrics (written, notes Toomey, “at a low time in my life”) once the song gears up it truly takes flight with some quite remarkable guitar work from Toomey and his six-string partner (and producer extraordinaire) Chris Tsangarides. ‘Metal Sun’ on the flip is more of a hard-drivin’ traditional metal work-out, all florid guitars and in-your-face vocals, but again sounds all the better for its makeover. Tsangarides’ production is, as you’d expect, crisp and clear with plenty of punch pushing things along, and, as ever, all credit to powerhouse drummer Steve Turton, an amazing talent and the only other person alongside Toomey to play on the original versions.

As for why he chose to re-visit this song now, “it’s as relevant today as it was when I first wrote it,” Toomey suggests; “more so, perhaps, given the way of the world as it is now. It was a note to myself that, y’know, you can do your worst to me, but you’re ultimately wasting your time – ‘you cannot hide as the end appears’. Or as is often quoted The Bible: ‘vengeance is mine: I will repay, saith the Lord’.”
