Jerry Johnson & Neville Anderson

JERRY JOHNSON and NEVILLE ANDERSON are BRASS ROOTZ INTERNATIONAL

JERRY JOHNSON BIO:

JERRY JOHNSON, saxophonist extraordinaire, is world renowned and in-demand on the Reggae music scene. A brilliant & gifted musician, he can be heard on BURNING SPEAR’S 2009 GRAMMY AWARD WINNING CD, “JAH IS REAL”. Jerry was born in Bronx, New York to a Jamaican father and a Bajan mother. Jerry’s interest in the saxophone began at the tender age of five on his first visit to the local barber shop, which was owned by his dad’s friend and SUGAR MINOTT’S trumpet playing uncle, LESTER MINOTT. Lester and his fellow musicians left a wonderfully strong impression on young Jerry; especially the saxophonist, CHUGHIE, who also played with THE DYNAMITES & THE STEPPING STONES. Says Jerry, “Even though I wasn’t thrilled about getting my first hair cut, (they gave me a lollipop to stop me from crying), I felt excited, because I knew I wanted to play the horn and jam just like them.” Ironically, Jerry didn’t actually begin playing until junior high school. He also took private lessons and played in his first Reggae band when he was 16. Jerry’s father had a Jamaican Night Club from the ‘60’s thru the ‘80’s. Even though the club underwent a few name changes throughout those decades, JIPI JAPA, BLUE LAGOON, and PENTHOUSE, was where Jerry saw and met many musicians and singers such as THE BLUES BUSTERS, LESTER STERLING of THE SKATALITES, THE WILD BUNCH feat. BUNNY RUGS of THIRD WORLD, PHILLIS DILLON, BYRON LEE, DENROY MORGAN of the BLACK EAGLES (father of MORGAN HERITAGE), and many more.

Jerry has performed and recorded with endless Reggae greats, SUGAR MINOTT, JOHN HOLT, KEN BOOTHE, HORACE ANDY, LEROY HEPTONES SIBBLES, SHAGGY, FRED LOCKS, KRS ONE, JUDY MOWATT, QUEEN LATIFAH, SISTER CAROL, BURNING SPEAR, STEEL PULSE, SKATALITES, BIG MOUNTAIN, BLACK EAGLES (DENROY MORGAN), RECKLESSBREED, AKA NEW BREED, ANTHEM, ROLAND ALPHONSO, JACKIE MITTO, CEDRIC (IM) BROOKS, MAXI PRIEST, U-ROY, BERES HAMMOND, MARCUS MILLER, KY-MANI MARLEY and the late greats ALTON ELLIS AND DENNIS BROWN. Jerry has performed on many world-wide tours such as REGGAE SUNSPLASH, STING, & JAPANSPLASH. His television appearances include the ARSENIO HALL SHOW with QUEEN LATIFAH, JAY LENO and CONAN O’BRIEN SHOWS with STEEL PULSE. He also performed for PRESIDENT CLINTON’S INAUGURATION. In the 80’s, Jerry produced his popular CD, "EAST OF THE CITY". He also produced 3 solo albums, "THE SCORE", "FOR ALL SEASONS", & "SAXMAN SPECIAL", featuring the late great ROLAND ALPHONSO.

Jerry’s music is tantalizing to the senses. This is affirmed in the forthcoming release of his new CD, “JUST COOLING”, which highlights his spicy & original musicianship. Other releases include “JERRY JOHNSON & NEVILLE ANDERSON: BRASS ROOTZ INTERNATIONAL” (2008), and “REGGAE VIBES” (1996). His melodious fusion of Reggae and R&B reveals his refreshing and expressive style. Enjoy the smooth and mellow sounds of this outstanding saxophonist. You won’t be disappointed.

NEVILLE ANDERSON BIO:

NEVILLE "MAC DADDY" ANDERSON, veteran trombonist, was born in London of Jamaican parents and educated in the USA.

He has been playing the trombone from the age of eight and has been able to reach a number of outstanding achievements in music. Alongside the legendary JERRY JOHNSON, they have been featured in countless reggae recordings under the “Bullwackies” label as well as providing horn tracks for other well-known reggae artists such as SUGAR MINOTT, JERRY HARRIS, SISTER CAROL, The Love Joys, and Milton Henry. They also co-wrote "Abashanti Rock" which rose to number 2 in the reggae charts in 1980. Neville had the privilege of performing with several reggae legends such as ROLAND ALPHONSO, HORACE ANDY, LESTER STERLING, SUGAR MINOTT, JERRY HARRIS, and CLARK GAYTON.

Growing up in the USA afforded Neville the opportunity to be exposed to Rhythm & Blues at its infancy (when it was still being performed live) and he was able to view the performances of great entertainers and their bands...the likes of James Brown, Earth Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Cameo, Ohio Players, Kool and the Gang (before JT), Parliament Funkadelic, Bootsy Collins, and D’Angelo. This influence was instrumental in his career development. During those years, he loved emulating the styles of all the horn sections of that time. From the 1990’s to present he has become a specialist in “old school" funk. This skill allowed Neville to found the “Mac Daddy Horn Section”. John Weatherly and Neville are the original members. They became the most in-demand horn section in New York City and had the honor of performing for many notable VIP’s such as PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON, ROBERT DENIRO, JOE PESCI, DONALD TRUMP, and RON PEARLMAN. They also performed with ISAAC HAYES, which can be seen in his life documentary produced by the American Music channel with appearances by Erikah Badu, Dionne Warwick, Betty Wright, Cheryl “Pepsi” Riley, The Intruders, Doug E. Fresh, Tommy Davidson, Mark Curry, and many more.

Neville is currently performing with the Bar Code Band in Pattaya, Thailand, with the most talented musicians in the region. Check him out for the musical experience of a lifetime!
