Jesse Woods

aised on Country music and citing Graham Parsons and Townes Van Zandt as his earliest influences, native Texan Jesse Woods views Austin as the city that most resembles Home. But it would be his experiences in the forests of northern California, the mountains of Colorado, and the beaches of Venice, Ca. that serve as the inspiration for his unique brand of music that is gradually redefining what lo-fi garage folk could sound like. Accentuated by his voice, a wine soaked howl that alternates between carefree and haunting, his music has already drawn comparisons to Jeff Buckley, Bob Dylan, Bon Iver, and Ray Lamontagne. His style is centered around a raw and heartbreaking aesthetic that is as mysterious as it is peaceful.

In the same vein as Beck's Sea Change, Bon Iver's For Emma, For Ever Ago, or an old Woody Guthrie recording - Woods' debut EP is a collection of 8 songs meticulously layered by himself that are rich with reverb and ghostly harmonies. The sparse arrangement of ambient guitar, tambourine, and limited percussion give the music an old, rustic quality that some might deem as ancient. The homemade aspect of these recordings reveals itself in various pops and cracks throughout, but undeniably only adds to the charm. Recorded without a microphone directly into a beat up Macbook, these first recordings serve as a snapshot into the mind and soul of a young artist who is too caught up in the magic and adventure of youth to worry about what the future holds. Restless and curious, there is much in store for this talented young singer/songwriter and his career should not be a brief one.

"After hearing something from his only recording, a homemade demo, everyone (including me) has been asking about this guy. Playing on the BMI Stage with a strong, supporting band I got some answers. He's a new, extremely talented singer/songwriter who will be getting a lot of attention." - Paste Magazine

"New to the Austin music scene, singer/songwriter Jesse Woods is set to get noticed quickly with the upcoming release of his debut EP. Woods Americana credentials are likewise accentuated by his voice, a rich twang that alternates between carefree and desperate." - The Austin American Statesman.
