Jim Nailon

Jim teaches Spanish at his parish school, St. Thomas More, in Omaha, NE, where he also directs the STM Youth Choir and leads the Angel of God Club. He earned his B. A. in classical guitar in 1976, but now spends his time with his Taylor 514 CE. In addition to arranging hymns for guitar and writing church music and love songs for his wife, he likes to garden and go fishing with his wife.

Jim writes songs and hymns that have singable melodies and lyrics that are strongly rooted in Scriptural and Eucharistic themes. In his first CD, Arms Open Wide, most of the up-tempo songs were written for school functions. One song, Upon This Stone, was written for the Poor Clare Sisters of Omaha and sung at the cornerstone laying ceremony for their new convent. The song, To Our Lady, is a beautiful musical setting of the traditional children’s prayer/poem by Mary Dixon Thayer, “Lovely lady, dressed in blue.”

The Praying the Guitar CD is all instrumental and based on Jim's hymn arrangements, which can be found on his website, www.liturgicalguitarist.com. He also arranged many of the songs on the CD to include violin or flute as a second instrument. The hymn selection covers a wide range of Christian hymnody from Baptist to Catholic. It is a relaxing and reflective listen.

Jim's most recent CD, Little Baby in the Hay, is a collection of 9 original Christmas songs and 6 traditional songs. Jim is joined by the STM Youth Choir on 6 songs and there are 3 guitar instrumentals, as well.
