John Finbury

John is a Latin Grammy nominated songwriter (2016 nomination for "Song Of The Year") and a pianist and composer from Andover, Massachusetts. He started on drums in high school rock bands and studied piano at Longy School of Music in Cambridge and Boston University. His musical idols include Bill Evans, Monk, and Jobim. He plays piano in the jazz sextet with his wife, singer Patty Brayden, who co-wrote the lyrics with Ned Claflin on many of the songs on his album "Pitanga" as well as his MPB album from 2015 "Imaginário."

In 2018, he began a collaboration with Brazilian lyricist, singer and actress Thalma de Freitas, whose early co-writing credits include João Donato and Céu.

Sorte! featuring Thalma de Freitas & Alma Brasileira presents the first two songs of this collaboration on 7" vinyl available on CDbaby.

Recorded at the legendary Powerstation at Berklee in New York City, the "Alma Brasileira" project was produced by Latin Grammy winner Emilio D. Miler, who assembled an all-star band for this recording, featuring:

Vitor Gonçalves - piano, Rhodes & accordion
Chico Pinheiro - guitar
John Patitucci - bass
Duduka da Fonseca - drums
Airto Moreira - percussion

A complete album of John Finbury's "Alma Brasileira" featuring Thalma de Freitas is expected for release in Spring 2019.
