John Harley Weston

Singer-songwriter John Harley Weston’s guitar based rock conjures Paul Rodgers’ soul, the pop sensibilities of Matchbox 20, Brandon Flowers and Daryl Hall, Springsteen’s honesty, Ben Harper and Bernard Fanning’s social conscience and even subtle edges of vintage Neil Diamond. It's a quality mix.

Originally from Scotland, Weston moved to Australia in 1997 and now calls the rainforest arts hub of Tamborine Mountain, Queensland, his home. (Although he often yearns for a single malt in the Scottish Highlands)

His latest independent album 'Music Man' (2016) has John collaborating again with long time friend, award winning engineer/producer Sandy Jones, of Foundry Music Lab in Scotland. Living on opposite sides of the world they sent files back and forth across the oceans, until John was able to get to the studio to finish off the tracks during the northern hemisphere summer. The material shows an artist maturing lyrically and musically, from socially aware themes of equality, to matters of love and loss, to alcohol infused tales and onward to darker voids.

Weston's first taste of success was lead singer and co-writer with Scottish band Frontier, who were signed to UK label Phonogram in the 90’s, recording with legendary Steeley Dan producer Gary Katz amongst others. Downunder, his solo independent efforts have won him the Australian National Songwriting Contest in 2005 (rock category) with ‘Last Days Of Summer’ and gathered accolades from Unisong and Billboard World Songwriting Contests for songs from his albums ‘Hope Harbour’ (2004) and ‘Welcome Back To Reality’(2008). He also released a single, 'Road To Victory' (1999) via Festival Records for Brisbane Lions Aussie rules football team. (like writing for the NY Yankees or Glasgow Rangers)

Voted one of the best vocalists in the world at Singeruniverse by heavyweight music publisher Dale Kawashima, Weston also held the Number 1 spot for an entire 6 months on the Australian Indie Radio Charts with ‘Brothers And Sisters’. His music was featured on Channel 9's 'The Voice' (2012) and added to Channel 7’s Beijiing Olympics playlist (2008). No mean feat for an independent artist.

Kudos aside, John says there’s no end to learning. He’s still a struggling songwriter trying to write a great song every time he picks up his guitar....and his work on 'Music Man' confirms this. It's available from all major online retailers.
