Johnny Hernandez

Johnny Hernandez
(Tejano Roots Hall Of Fame Inductee)

“Tejano music legend and multi-genre artist Johnny Hernandez and his band, La Gente is more energetic and prepared than ever to produce an extraordinary show. Johnny has a new Mega hit single recording "Gracias" which is being played in many cities around the U.S. He also has recently released a new English album, This Time (Again) that showcases his rendition of the Blues, Oldies and Jazz classics. His show can include these dynamic tunes from the fifties to bring back the "good old days" and produce an exciting rhythm driven dance atmosphere and/or perform a variety of Spanish and English tunes.

Johnny is credited with many super hits in his long and lustrous recording career spanning 49 years beginning with his brother’s band Little Joe and The Latinaires who later became Little Joe, Johnny y La Familia. It was Johnny's recording of "Por Un Amor" (which has sold over 1.5 million records throughout the years) that first launched Little Joe & The Latinaires to star status, and then his lead vocals on "Las Nubes", the Chicano anthem that helped set Little Joe, Johnny y La Familia to Super Star status. On October 19, 2009 Johnny was featured on the PBS and CNN special, Latin Music USA.
Because of the success of Johnny's new single "Gracias", Johnny decided to form the band: "Johnny Hernandez y La Gente”, based in Austin, Texas which incorporates the superb talents of musicians that have worked with Johnny in the past.

Throughout Johnny’s career, he has shared the stage with many national acts such as: Jerry Lopez and Santa Fe and Fat City Horns, Herb Reed & The Platters, Barbara Lynn, Archie Bell, Roy Head, Susan Anton, Rich Little, Santana, Tower of Power, Tierra (Rudy & Steve Salas) , Malo, War, Paul Rodriguez, James Brown, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, Brenton Wood, Rosie & The Originals, Al Wilson, Los Tigres Del Norte, Ramon Ayala, Jose Alfredo Jimenez, Cal Tjader, Luis Gasca, Mongo Santa Maria, Willie Nelson, BJ Thomas and the list goes on…

Johnny’s diversified music talent from Spanish to blues and jazz has entertained and brought to their feet a wide range of audiences in some of the largest and well-known venues in the U.S.: Austin Music Hall for the 2010 SXSW Music awards; The
Greek Theater, Berkeley, CA; Armadillo World Headquarters, Austin, TX; Austin City Limits; Hollywood Palladium, Los Angeles, CA; Houston Astrodome, Reliant Stadium (to an audience of over 70,000); Fillmore West; the Indian casinos in New Mexico and Arizona; Rio and Orleans Casinos in Las Vegas, NV countless coliseums, conventions and events; and Ramstein Air force base in Germany.

New Project:

Johnny has recently signed his first artist on his label Stronghold Records; with a new release by Valentina Estrada “Sincerely” (Oldies ReLived) which has been received extremely well by both fans & media/radio, such as Margaret Moser of the prestigious Austin Chronicle: "Valentina is as lovely as her voice - great work, and I love "Sincerely"! Beautiful! " (June 25, 2011) & “Your music is a pleasure to hear - delighted to hear Johnny with you too” (June 25, 2011) ! While in Los Angeles Johnny met with the very popular DJ & Radio Personality of East LA Revue, Frankie Firme who was so impressed with Valentina & her CD that he showcased the entire album on his radio show for one month, something rarely done by Mr. Firme, if ever. The following is an excerpt of Frankie Firme’s article on Valentina’s CD, March 27, 2011: “Making her world-wide debut here on East L.A. Revue Radio station, Ms. Valentina Estrada performs some all-time favorites in her latest CD "Sincerely (Oldies Relived)"...a fine collection of 10 all-time romantic, cruising favorites, straight out of the Land of 1000 Dances for your listening, dancing, and romancing pleasure. Produced by legendary Tejano singing star Johnny Hernandez and co-arranged by Johnny Hernandez & Mr. Larry Tarin, this fine new CD also features background vocals and harmony by Mr. Hernandez himself…”!

With the possibility of Johnny’s signing Stronghold Records to a worldwide music distributing company Johnny is considering a roster of new artists for future recordings, although for now he is concentrating one hundred percent on his new artist Valentina Estrada and her CD “Sincerely” (Oldies ReLived).

So the Tejano Music Legend Johnny Hernandez continues to produce music for all the people that have followed his enduring career & has enjoyed his body of work throughout the decades. And now Johnny has released his Autobiography book “The Cotton Picker-An Odyssey”, now available at and at
