K. Sridhar

K. Sridhar is one of the rare musicians who has mastered both the Hindustani and Carnatic traditions within Indian Classical Music. From infancy, he was trained in Carnatic music by his mother, a renowned vocalist who descends from fourteen generations of musicians originally from Tanjore. At age 5, he began his studies on the sarod, one of the world's most complex instruments. At first he studied with Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar, an internationally acclaimed rudra veena player and lineage bearer of the Dhrupad style within Hindustni Music. This combination of musical fluency and rigorous training all led to becoming the youngest member ever of Ravi Shankar's orchestral group at the age of 12. You can also hear the influence of Ali Akbar Khan in some of his recordings.

In 1982, K. Sridhar started touring internationally as a solo artist. He has given hundred of concerts around the globe, especially in association with Peter Gabriel's world music non-profit known as W.O.M.A.D. K. Sridhar has been featured on fourteen recording on European, American, and Middle Eastern labels. A few of these have been explorations into the fusion possibilities between Indian Classical Music and other forms of music. K. Sridhar has received critical acclaim from the global press with many reviewers noting a quality described as "an aspiration towards spiritual bliss."
