All is Well with Karen Richards’ offering
By Bill MacLean - Beach Metro News Feb.22, 2011

Karen Richards, has just released a CD of seven original jazz-inspired compositions called ALL IS WELL. Accompanied by Mark Sepic whom, Richards said, “found the chords for all these songs,” her songs are beautifully written and excellently performed. Her writing style is contemporary and original with touches of blues, country and Latin mixed in with the jazz, her lyrics uplifting and inspiring. She is an excellent singer with years of performing behind her, including seven years as a member of The Provisional Brass Tacks Choir.
Songs like “Quantum Leap”, and “Wonder” are truly jazz-inspired, Sepic’s instrumentation playing like an Ed Brickert behind Richards’ silky voice. “Love Surrounds This House” has a more bluesy feel to it, while “Freedom” is more of a country song. Richards’ voice takes on the sound of Sylvia Tyson on this one.
“Breathe” is a meditative new-age piece of music with the sounds of the surf in the background and Richards’ breathy lyrics encouraging the listener to join her in the process of relearning to breathe.
The final song in the short CD is the title tune. Richards calls “All Is Well” “a life-affirming rally with a Latin feel.”
Karen Richards is also the owner of Shorelines Canada which provides sound therapy for residents in long-term care facilities. For this she sings a capella (without accompaniment) freeform, as well as standard blues, jazz and country standards, at the residents’ bedside.
Richards will be holding a special CD release party for All Is Well, Feb. 27, at 11:30 a.m. at Neighbourhood Unitarian Universalist congregation, 79 Hiawatha Rd. For more information on the location and time visit
