Kathy X

Kathy X (2002 - 2013) was formed in Berlin by UK guitarist and singer-songwriter Kathy Freeman, veteran of many punk, rock and psychobilly bands, including the Accelerators, The Birdhouse and Death Valley Surfers.

The core members were Kathy Freeman and Rob Raw, who has also played with Mad Sin, and was a founder member of cult old school psychobillies The Rawheads. From 2002-2006, former US session musician, the late Dave Crome (sideman for Bo Diddley, Del Shannon, Wolfman Jack and Danny and the Juniors) was the original drummer. In 2004 Kathy X recorded CD album Ready For Anything for the Polish label Cosmic Records. After Crome returned to the USA, Thomas Block, and then Felix Burkardt occupied the drumstool. With Burkhardt the band recorded double A-side vinyl single "Fluch der Pharaohnen"/No Tommorrow (physical copies available at Kathy Freeman's bandcamp site) and some of the songs on the final compilation Album "All the Way' (both on the Frogtapes label) Kathy X opened for Dick Dale, the Meteors, the Long Tall Texans and the Horrorpops among others and played extensively in Europe.

Rob Raw went on to play with Berlin "wall city" punk trio PVC for a couple of years, while Kathy focused more on solo performances. Now they each play in a range of projects, and sometimes as a duo - still often performing songs from the Kathy X repertoire. While Kathy X played largely on the psychobilly circuit, the songs have a wider crossover appeal and have demonstrably survived the demise of the band.
